Good luck finding one! The oldest ones are being advertised around the 11k mark for private sales, and it's possible that you'll haggle someone down if they need to shift it. Come winter I'd expect to see the first "asking price" VX220s at 10k and below, as they're a nightmare to shift in the colder months. Look around from November onwards for a bargain.

only VXs you'll get under 10 grand will be CAT C or D's unless someone is really desperate to sell. 11k seems to be the base price for them at the moment for an NA and 14k for turbos. Mine was 13k but only done 7k miles most I looked at were about 20k miles and 12.5k

Why are they being advertised for so much? According to parkers a 2001/Y should be £8500 privately. I've never known such a big gap between the price guide valuations and advertised prices for any other car.

It could be due to Parkers values being fiction

They also say that dealer prices should be £9.5k, but I've never seen one advertised for that price at a dealer.

I thought the price guides were based on what cars actually sell for. Do they just make them up instead? Or perhaps it's to do with the fact that the majority have done below average mileage.

In the case of Parker's, if it's not a high volume mainstream car the prices do seem to be pulled from a hat. There is, of course, a difference between advertised price and sale price, but it's rarely going to be more than 5-10%.

Parkers does give a good idea of p/x price to be honest - when I sold my VX I was offered around 9k for it (and that was a couple of years ago now). However, I sold it for £14k-odd privately, and the same car would probably be advertised for 11.5k.

It's an interesting point about mileage - the cars (generally) don't do 10-12k a year, so "average" mileage is actually quite high compared to other cars on the market.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/ This seems too cheap to be true IMO, especially coz its a Lightning. This one has done a lot of miles http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/

It's cat D/C (can't remember which off the top of my head) though. There's a black 03 on Autotrader with 60k miles for just under 10k though. Should be good if you can ignore the miles - the car can certainly take them.

Seemed to good to be true,

I was thinking of having a look even though I'm after a VXT/R, at that price it'd be really good value motoring if they'd advertised it honestly.
