How can you tell whether the exhaust that is on your car is the standard one, I cant get in contact with the guy I got the car from so cant go down that route, but wanted to know if there's any tell tale signs on the exhaust itself, it does have a little metal plate between the two pipes with loads of numbers on it???? Is this standard? For some reason I think it may not be standard!

Well it doesn't say Vauxhall, says CFI or something like that, is that standard then?

Yes.

An alternative test is: Does it sound like an Astra?

Its not that loud, sounds quite boomy at low revs though, has quite a bassy sound to it, further up the revs it sounds nice, has a whistle that builds up with it ( no its not a turbo btw!)

Don't know what an astra/vectra sounds like so cant compare these!!! I think it is standard although can't be sure as it does sound good in my opinion!

It's the manufacturers mark that's actually used by quite a major manufacturer - if vx220.org.uk was open for business then there's loads of info on there about who "CF" are.

I think the same company also produce Magnex, or was it Mongoose, something like that anyway....

Ben

P.S. The VSE is manufactured by Janspeed but I don't think it is marked on the exhaust

Thorney still has some I think. Or you can get them from Vauxhall. Also they come up quite regularly on the for sale section on vx220.org - theyre made by Janspeed, so some Vauxhall specialist tuning shops will definitely have them.

BTW its short for Vauxhall Sports Exhaust and was an option on the NA VX when it was new.

Whilst it is made by Janspeed, it is not the same design as their Janspeed-branded offering.

As cool as VSEs are, I think you're right. If you can find a VSE for a few hundred quid with less than 10k on then it might be worth a punt? Otherwise, get the Piper - it's a nice sound, it's stainless and there's an optional, low-density "sports-cat" section available too.

Better to have VSE'd and rusted than to never have VSE'd at all though IMO
