Timming chain tentioner
Discussion
Anybody know what the sroty with these is.
So annoying not having the vx site (no jokes about not being able to seach Jules...)
I remember Jim having to change his.
I can hear a light ticking (and it is very light) from the right of the car when i am sat in the drivers seat. When listening out for the noise with the engine running from the boot area, i cannot hear it.
It's going into Vaux today anyway, so will get them to look at it, i was just wondering what to expect.
As far as i know TMS charge about £250 to put a new tentioner on, so its not a huge job, its always better to be safe than sorry though so i might get it done anyway.
My car only has 22k miles and most of them have been motorway, so it does seem a little strange.

Classic description of the tensioner problem. Is it a warranty recall for the new, improved pulley thing?

When mine went it sounded like the sump had been filled with bolts. A lot louder than a light ticking. The tensioner (which costs not very much) seemed very badly made and the plunger was hanging up in the body (the bit that screws into the block). This allowed the chain to lash around. In parts I think I ended up paying about £140 for the tensioner, the various gaskets, the tensioner blade and the chain.
Replacing it was a sod of a job and involved taking the rear clam off. If TMS are willing to do the job for £250 then I would consider that a bargain.

Ah, having just checked your profile and worked out who you are (damn this lack of vxorguk!) I think I'd better add that I heard this ticking noise from a broken tensioner thing on a VXT rather than an NA. I can't remember now if it was tensioners or pulleys or what that was the VXT problem now, but the symptoms were just as your describe
