Hi felas.

My VSE was delivered yesterday so is now undergoing an acid treatment for the surface rust then its getting painted. Going to fit it on sat as well as remove my pre cat. Are there any things i should do (ie new gaskets etc)? I belive JamesGray is the man for help but as VX220.org is ed will see what this p[lace throughs up.

You will need a new gasket that goes between the exhaust manifold and cat pipe and some exhaust paste for the joint between the cat and the rear box. It took me about 3 hrs to get the old one off, it is a pain to undo the old bolts between the cat pipe and rear box, I had to cut mine off.(you will need some new bolts aswell)

I assume from the rust removal that you've bought it second -hand? This is actually a good move I reckon as it should have had some time to mature. Mine has over 20k on it and sounds very different to a brand new one, it's got a much racier edge to it rather than the woofly noise of a new one.

Yep i bought it second hand of Cocopops . The rust on it is next to nothing but i wanted to treat it and then paint it so it last as long as possible. I realy an excited to hear it. From just looking at the zorst it looks like its going to make one hell of a racket. i cant wait .

no bolts on the manifold they are studs from the manifold through the downpipe flange. soak well in plusgas or similar before trying to remove. you really dont want these to up they are a tt to get at. i needed an extension bar on my socket to get to them.

Well today has mostly been spent beating the living SHIT out of my precat. When the site was running someone wrote about pulling the pre cat out not in my case. Drilling the cat was fairly easy, but removing the collor was a . I have learned my drill sharpening technique is rubbish. Resorted to violence and a BFH and a selection on chisels.

As for removing the old excaust and cat that was a peice of piss. Once everything on the old excaust was removed it came out sweet as a nut. Just need to make up a new bracket for the VSE then its all back together 2moz. Will report back then.

OH MY FCUKING WORD. Why didnt the VX come with the VSE as standard. They sound the dogs nackers. Havent had much chance to test out the performance increase if any due to the pre cat removal but THE NOISE ITS TO DIE FOR!

Glad you like it! You need to find yourself a bridge, tunnel and multi-storey car park to perform "sound checks"

What he said. Its my car's best feature by far. You won't get any increase in performance from the VSE though. Some say even a slight reduction. Ah you removed the pre-cat too, so yep, there will be a slight increase in performance. Well done and congratulations!
