Have just taken delivery today of a new Vectra VXR. Initial impressions are very good, the car has only done about 50 miles and is very very quick. Engine note is fantastic and the fit finish of the car is superb. Will look forward to giving updates if anyone is interested.

Blimey I didn't think anyone had read my post.

OK here is a report of week 1 and 500 miles.

The note of the engine is superb, it is surprisingly loud. My partner started the car early one morning this week and the whole house vibrated. The sound is a lot louder than the M3 or the Tamora and it has a great note.

It is also a very quick car indeed and the low down pull makes it very useable. Yes there is Torque Steer (note to self: have both hands on the steering wheel when overtaking at full throttle) but that is really the one and only time where it has been an issue. I am reliably informed that the engine is in a low state of tune (350 BHP is allegedly possible) so role on the official launch of the TripleEight/Vauxhall VXR Performance Centre launch.

The electronic suspension (similar to Porsche's PASM) is very good indeed and I cannot for the life of me understand why the press don't like the effect of pressing the Sport button. Our car is fitted with 19" wheels and the ride quality is very good.

Fuel economy is equally excellent, On a run to Exeter I got 31 MPG (I know of another owner who can easily get 44 out of one on a run). Currently after running around Bath I am averaging 27 MPG.

It comes as standard with a DAB Radio (we love the fact that you can listen to 5 Live without it crackling).

The dealer we have purchased from (Hinton of Bath) are an Old School dealer. The car was prepared to a high standard (You could smell the wax coming off it) and they could not do anything more to ensure we are happy.

Overall we would give the car 9/10 (The torque steer pegging it back by the 1 point)

Turboman - No it is a private purchase.

are you serious about it being louder than an M3 or a Tamora? that is very surprising to me. do you have a sports exhaust?

also did you get the lovely red leather interior? the seats look amazing in the car!

Yes I am serious about the exhaust. Without a doubt it is louder than the Boxster, M3 and the Tamora. At the moment it has the standard exhaust. I am a moderator and active participant on vxronline.co.uk and if you have a look there you will see lots of discussion about the miltek exhaust and the modifications that 888 have planned as part of the official opening of the Vauxhall endorsed vxrperformance centre.

Evo magazine have also tested one against a BMW 330, Mitsi Evo and Impreza STI. Taking into account it was the least powerful car in the test did not embarass itself and EVO had to admit that they were very impressed with it (which is exactly what I have thought since test driving it in January).
