Hi, I’ve got 61 plate 1.2 Corsa D with 49k miles. I am getting no more than 31 MPG on the motorway I daily do 25 miles on motorway (70mph cruise control). That decreases as soon as I start doing local driving. I am using the on board computer but I have worked it out myself and the mpg is similar. I have put 4 new tyres and there is nothing obviously wrong as it has just an MOT. Is this normal as it is lower than what I would have thought?

Just to confirm I have drove other cars and get a higher mpg (45-50mpg)

I had a Corsa D a few years ago and used to get the same. Try sitting at 60 rather than 70. I was never impressed by the MPG (and most of it ha!).

Il try sitting at 60 instead, I forgot to mention when I’m at 70 the revs are just around 3200rpm, is this also normal?

To be honest I don’t think it helps that there’s usually also 3 or 4 of us in the car

I can't remember what it was for me, but I do remember it driving me mad so used to drop down to 55/60 for long trips.

Three/four up won't help either, but not a lot you can do about that other than get one to run behind!

The worst think is I can’t get a car with a bigger engine since I am 18 and struggle to get insured. The mpg is posted above was in a 2.0 diesel (65 plate Passat Gt).

My girlfriends 1.4 gets 40mpg according to the computer and she drives like a granny and this is just her in the car, so I imagine a 1.2 full of people on a motorway would get less

Hmm; My Mum's corsa will usually manage better than that on a run; If gently nursed with a tailwind the onboard PC has given 50mpg in the past, though that is one up.

If we're three up with a load, on a run 40mpg can be managed but that's at a more moderate speed ~65 or so.

Wow that’s good I’ve tried 65 and still no where near 40mpg
