New clutch slipping

So 1.6 petrol. 2009 zafira b.
Just replaced gearbox. Whilst it was off I put a new 3 piece clutch kit on.
Now though, gear fault fixed! But the clutch is slipped. Ok if you accelerate gradually but otherwise slipping. Changes gear perfectly.
I am sure it was torqued down evenly. I kept checking and was happy it was fine. But either I'm wrong or the slave is not returning fully.
So my question, has anybody ever managed to replace the slave without removing the subframe? Thinking I might be able to push the box back in to the wheel well just enough to get my hands on the 3 torx bolts and the union.
Or possibly even enough to inspect the pressure plate is even and rectify if needed...
Anybody done this?
