Emissions warning light came on today out the blue, and suddenly started experiencing:

- Car shuddering whilst idle and driving
- Loss of acceleration

Did a quick Google search and various forums suggested possible mis-firing. Perhaps needing new plugs or coil pack??

How big a job we looking here (and potential costs) if I book it in at the garage, bearing in mind the car’s 12 years old (56 plate) and I’m about to look for a new car anyway and wouldn’t expect much in PX... fk all in it’s current state! I have a separate deposit saved up for a new car anyway.

Is my car dead?

Is it worth getting it booked in?

Is it even worth the hassle?

Easy cheap job, new plugs all round (£40 assuming a 4 cylinder), plus a coil or 2. Another £40, plus a bit of a bit oflabour / diagnostics etc. £40.

So £120 should cover almost everything I would have thought

As easy as that? It was probably wishful thinking the thing was fked and I’d be getting a shiny new motor sooner than I thought.

Thanks for your help!
