Hi,

I have a 1.9 Astra CDTI SRi (58 plate) and the electrics have suddenly decided to give me loads of grief, resulting in the ignition now not working. The problem started with the car dying at a set of traffic lights and then struggling to start again. A few hours later this developed, resulting in the revometer and speedometer going up and down of their own accord. The fuel gauge was acting similar as well as miles being added to the odometer that it hadn't travelled. After pulling over to stop and check what was wrong, the car subsequently died. Trying to turn the key in the ignition didn't work at all. It doesn't even sound like it is trying to start. I have had the RAC out as well as having it looked at by a garage but they can't find the fault and have recommended taking it to a Vauxhall specialist. As they are expensive and I can't really afford that right now, I was hoping someone has maybe had a similar issue or could shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance!

edit: I have also tried the pedal test that I have seen mentioned but that doesn't seem to show anything either.

Check the fuse box cover under the bonnet on the passengers side (UEC). The tabs break and allow moisture to get in causing all sorts of random problems. Even if the lid is on securely it's still worth having a look. You will have to unbolt the top half to check underneath for corrosion and moisture. Even just a little can cause major issues. Unplug the battery before removing it. Also unplugging the battery overnight (at least 6 hours) resets the UEC and other control modules and cures a lot of strange electrical faults
