Problems starting my 04 plate vauxhaul astra 1.7 diesel

So a couple of months ago i was driving my car for about 2 hours round the city, parking up and stopping. I pulled into tesco express to get some bread came out 2 minutes later and the car wouldn't start, the atrter motor was turning over perfectly fine but just not catching. I left it for about 4 minutes and it just started. thought nothing of it, A few weeks later it did it again in pretty much the same situation just pulled up and came back to my car and i wouldn't start but it did start after 5 minutes of leaving it alone and trying it again. it wasn't too warm nor too cold outside. Again after 5 minutes it wouldn't start. A few weeks later (about 3 weeks ago) it did it again but this time it was first thing in the morning trying to use the car for the first time that day, i was in a rush so i guy walking past helped me bump it off and that worked fine - no problems. About a week later i pulled up to my sisters to pick somethign up and i came back out a few mins later and it did it again, but again started after a few mins. Now today on lunch at work i went to shop and came back and it started fine. went home to make pack up came outside and i wouldnt start but again did start in 3-4 minutes. any ideas at all what is happening? it seems to be more frequent.

Few pointers -

1.I ran out of diesel one time and had to get it attached to a car battery charger to charge it up as it kept cutting out once i refueled -i dont recall this problem before this.

2. On the motorway if i go past 80mph my spanner light (service light) comes on but goes off after i restart the car. (i had a full service done and this still happens)
