Hi

Wondering if anyone could help me out i know nothing about cars in mechanical wise, so i will try to explain the best way i can. My model of car is..... Vectra Active 4 Door Saloon 1.8 16V Petrol 03 Plate I get a whirring noise when driving it's loud in first gear, i have been told it could be clutch or gearbox issues, i have already spent for a new radiator, new brake pipes replaced, new timing belt these were done almost 2 months ago and last year i had new brakes and drum etc replaced, now getting this issue. When driving you hear it more as you pull away in 2nd still the same noise 3rd slightly less and 4th & 5th but when you drive in 4th or 5th you here the whirring noise very slightly, when you put foot on clutch you don't hear the noise, and i have noticed the revving thermometer slightly higher then normal when i'm changing gear AND for some reason i have up on my dash display a light Bulb warning i have checked all my lights and they all working, so what can this be? Did wonder if it's to do with gearbox oil? because i was looking up and mentioned gearbox oil. If someone could give me a quick reply on this matter it would be most appreciate for any helpful comments, and if it's due to gearbox oil then i have saved a fortune, but with the luck i'm having na :-( Regards Malcolm

If the noise stops when clutch is depressed then it'll the clutch release bearing.

Hi

Just been out to me car and i did not mentioned that when you put the clutch pedal right down to the floor when it's stationary i get a little hissing noise, but like i mentioned the loud whirring noise goes when you put foot down on pedal to change gear when driving.

One more thing i would like to know will this do more harm for me driving like it is? i don't do a lot of miles there just small local miles, i can't do nothing until next week :-(

Thanks
Malcolm

As far as the hissing goes, no idea, could be a multitude of things.

Ref' the release bearing, it wont do any harm as such but if the noise gets a lot worse get it done straight away as they can fall to bits.

So do it asap.

Why do you need a gearbox?

All parts can be bought from the registration/chassis number.

Phone Autovaux who supply gen and non gen parts cheaper than most.
They use the latest VX EPC so can source anything from anywhere in Europe
