Insignia 1.8 Non turbo

Car is on a My11 plate and has been a bit odd since it was purchased last year by my parents. Within 3 months of ownership the coil pack burnt out and Vauxhall refused to contribute towards the cost as the item wasnt fitted where the car was bought from (York) and fitted in Scotland (as parents were away when it happened). This a common fault??
Secondly, the fan on the car appears to come on and stay on for a long time even on a short journey (5 miles + driven steady by mum). The car has been on a computer and no faults are showing!! This something to be worried about??
