Hi Guys,

I have a Corsa B 1.4 16V Sport (1999), that I use for work. Unfortunately, it has a major issue with the cooling system and I suspect that the head gasket and water pump have gone. I would rather not scrap it, as otherwise, it is a good car, however, I am trying to find the cheapest options to allow me to get it back on the road. What I am trying to find out is which engine variant I have. Can anyone tell me how I can identify which engine I have got?
Thanks in advance for all constructive responses.

The engine number is etched on the shaped part of the cylinder block by where the gearbox bolts onto it.

It's visible looking down the side of the engine on the transmission side but you may have to clean the area up a bit.

I've got the thermostat to do on my Dads 2002 Astra 1.6 8v (plus timing belt & water pump) & suspect its a Z16SE. The car is 2 hours away & my Dad is 86 so no way gonna be able to read anything on the block to confirm. Am I right or is there another way to confirm?

TIA

Mike
