Hi chaps,
My daughter's car has suffered from the dreaded indoor swimming pool syndrome.
It looks certain to be the seal around the brake master cylinder plate, can anyone recommend a mechanic in the Berks/Surrey area to replace the plate for a reasonable price?
Many thanks for the help

Not sure if you still need help with this or not... My fiancee's 2001 Corsa had exactly the same problem, the driver's footwell was actually underwater at one point. Traced the leak back to the brake servo plate. If you remove the wiper mechanism and washer bottle you'll get enough access to the problem area from under the bonnet. I simply ran a (copious) bead of silicone sealant all over the original seal- there were about 6 large splits that were the real problem. 18 months on and there hasn't been a drip of water in the car since.

Unfortunately even once sealed it you've still got to deal with the water already in the car. I tried drying everything with towels, fan heaters and more, but wasn't getting anywhere. In the end I took out the driver's seat, pulled up the carpet and cut out the sound deadening to dry it. The sound deadening really is just a big sponge- I got out over 8 litres of water in the end! Thankfully it's remained water and mold free though.

All in all not a difficult job, just time consuming. I suspect a garage would charge a fair amount to fix, so if you've got a free weekend I'd recommend giving it a go. Probably bank 3-4 hours for the sealing, and another 3-4 for taking the interior out and putting back again.

I know you were looking for a garage but hopefully this helps a little. Let me know if you've got any questions.

Thanks Justaday, to be honest i just don't have the time to faff, and then possibly not fix it. So i tracked a guy down who came out and did it for me. He removed the plate, cleaned it all down, and applied new sealant.
He's done a pretty good job too, and he got a sucky vax type hoover and removed a great deal of the water already inside the car. Guaranteed for a year too, so i'm a happy chapsmile
