My Sister seems to have her heart set on a 1.2/1.4 Corsa D as her next car as she really needs something newer and more economical. I'll be honest, I don't know much about these cars so I wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of any issues/faults that I should be looking out for?

She has a budget of around £4,000, which from a quick look in the classifieds should be able to buy her a fairly decent one in standard SXi trim, old-lady owned but prices her out of the VXR body'd/copy versions which is probably a bit chav-ish for her anyway.

We're at different ends of the speed spectrum so she may not feel so hard done by (although she is making the move from a fruitier Civic Jordan) however, when I drove a 1.2 Corsa D last year it was dangerously slow in my opinion with no power to get you out of trouble on the motorway or to maintain a constant speed should you hit any incline on the motorway without down-shifting and wringing its balls out in 3rd gear. I am hoping that the 1.4 will be less gutless but without many more problems?

I've tried to help myself on www.ukcorsa-d.com but I've had to close the window. There's not one person on there who can string a sentence together, let alone is equipped with a brain cell. Plenty of posts about remapping 1.2L NA engines, fitting VXR turbo's to 1.2L engine's but nothing of any substance, sanity or use.

Yeah, the 1.2 is slow. Too slow.

The 1.4 is dead on, just make sure the oil is changed regularly, especially if it's the 1.4VVT.

I have a 1.2 sxi d. It's a tool at the end of the day. Bland to drive but safe, economical, reliable and good quality. The 1.2 is not 'dangerous' but perfectly adequate. I do plenty of motorway driving and I have never found myself in a situation where it was dangerously underpowered. I just change down a gear smile
Hope that helps
