Am i dreaming?
Discussion
VX220 owners, I am looking for some advice! Yesterday I was driving along in my BMW mini cooper when a VX220 flew by me with a raucous soundtrack eminating from the those lovely rear pipes! Now my mini has been highly annoying recently and frankly I am in the mood to swap it for something a tad more sporty and after seeing the VX, I headed over to my local vauxhall dealer to get a closer look. I loved it close up and now I really want one! However, am I living in a dream world trying to find one at around the £13,000 mark? Any advice would be welcome!

Sorry Dan I dont do the whole Elise v 220 thing.
Spoilsport!
Davey S1 said:Can't argue with the badge thing - that's the one thing that bugged me about my VX if I'm honest. Pub talk and "what car have you got" questions from girls. Answering "VX220" identifies the girls who know about cars, but having to explain what one is whilst using the word "Vauxhall" gets a bit much. Pointing at it worked a lot better!
All I said was if you have a budget of £13k you will get a lot more performance and choice if you looked at an Elise*
*Plus a more prestigious badge
You would get more choice too, depends if you value the rarity factor of the VX!
Not convinced about the speed argument though. The Elise is quicker to 60, but the VX won't hit 60 in 2nd. They've got the same power to weight, but the extra power of the VX shows above 60-70. I test drove a few Elises before picking the VX (including the 111S), and they seemed to run out of steam once I'd got them into 3rd.
Still, horses for courses - they both drive brilliantly. The VX is a newer design though, and this really does show over the S1.

Agree. The difference in terms of comfort and driveability of the S2 or VX compared to my S1 is huge but thats one of the reasons I like it. It feels raw and exciting. Plenty of time for a comfy car when I grow up.
There are lots of modded Elises about so bangs per £ they are pretty good value at the moment.

You'll be quite lucky to find a VXT for 17k though. I'd have thought 18k's do-able given the time of year, (there are a couple up at 18.5 on the owners club) but even Parker's thinks you're looking at 19k for a 'good' private sale on an 03 plate, 500 less for a 52 (and I'm not sure there were any 52 plate cars...).

D'oh!
Moonland's a cracking colour for VXTs. Depends how desparate he gets, I suppose. It does have a hard top - this is well worth having in the Winter, and would set you back £700-odd second hand.
Edited to add: someone else from the board is trying to sell an NA, looking to get a turbo. He's after moonland too.
