I'm in the market for a cheap motor at the moment and there's a couple of these locally that keep catching my attention, they seem to offer a lot of car for the money.

Am I right in thinking the 2.2 in this is different to the nightmare version fitted to the Astra/Vectra/Signum which are prone to chain issues/failure? Any other issues I should be aware of with this car, engine or gearbox?

I'm aware the performance/mpg wont be great, but neither are a big concern for the use the car will get.

You are correct, the 2.2 in the Omega is the same belt driven unit that was fitted to early Frontera's & Sintra's, essentially its a larger capacity 2.0 Ecotec with timing belt rather than chain.
Omega's generally dont give a lot of issue, make sure the auto box changes smoothly, check for blowing exhausts etc. but they will generally tick away without much grief. Worth having anose over on teh Omega Owners Forum.
