Not strictly a vauxhall problem but I've just bought an Astra and clearly the previous owner has smoked in it . Can anyone recommend any particular products to clean and sanitise the interior?

Ive had this before - worked for me - but it takes TIME:

a) - wash everything down (and I mean everything) with normal detergent solution (fairy liquid) - seats carpets headlining air vents, dash, door panels, windows, switches the whole thing. Every single surface is contaminated and you need to remove it.

b) - repeat with AutoGlym interior shampoo - again - every single surface. Make sure all the absorbant surfaces have had a thorough scrub with brushes.

c) - repeat b) if neccesary. Use a bucket. If you are no longer getting dirty water you know you've got everything clean.

d) - redress any surfaces as required

e) - change any cabin/aircon filters.

f) - put air fresheners on your air vents.

g) - let the car breathe on warm days - ie leave your windows/sunroof slightly open. This helps the residual odours out.

A week or two later and you should be odourless!

Good luck!

I bought a MINI that stunk of smoke, took a lot of cleaning and I replaced the seats (for half leather ones) but the smell did go.

My car had air-con and one of these worked wonders for the smell

As well as wiping the surfaces, sprinkle nutrodole on all the carpets, leave for a bit then hoover, repeat if needed. Autoglum odour eliminator and autofresh as well. Autofresh especially on every surface. Keep repeating and eventually it will go.
