In need of some help with my Vauxhall Corsa 05 plate 1.4 16v SXI.

I have probably posted this in the wrong section but I couldnt find the right one so here goes..

I changed the MAF around 2-3 months ago (bosch) because the car was jerking while driving and was running very rich, mech plugged it in and came to the conclusion the MAF needed changing so thats what he did. Car ran fine for a week or so but then EML came back on! Grr... >frown

For the past week or so the car has become gradually worse.
This morning it started fine, (hasnt been starting at all recently and have had to jump it most mornings) but within less that 5 seconds it cut out, car will start again but keeps cutting out and is stalling at junctions, roundabouts etc.

I used the pedal trick and the error codes are both the P0100 codes (mass or volume air flow circuit high input / low input C-10).

I have looked through loads of forums and it seems that people are suggesting it is bad earthing and I should re-wire the earth?

Has anyone else had this problem, I cant keep taking it to the mechanic because he has told me that their plug in machine (dont know what you call them) isnt up to scratch and I need to go to a VX garage to get the error codes read! F*** that, its £50 before you even get through the door!
Please anyone, all suggestions are taken on board as I am clutching straws now! frown

Also, i found this (text below) on another forum and i wanted some input on it, does it sound like it will solve the problem?

Thank you all.

M.x

I have the x18xe1 in my Astra and have had the EML on since I got it. The codes I had were p0100 and p0110 relating to the MAF and ATS. I tried another sensor but this didn't cure my problems. The symptoms I had were

Erratic, lumpy idle
Loss of power and jerkiness under 2k rpm and over 4k rpm
Stalling on start up and at junctions
Very slow throttle response

I read about re-earthing the sensor and how it solved the problem for a lot of xe1 owners. Here is how you do it...

Peel back the protective covering at the MAF plug.
Carefully strip about 2 inches of the covering from the yellow wire
Get a foot long piece of wire (I got some from maplins) and strip 2 inches from either end.
Wrap one end of this new wire around the exposed yellow wire you've already stripped.
Undo the bolt on the earth point on top of the alternator, next to the inlet manifold and secure the other end of your wire under this.
Solder the joint you created at the existing yellow earth wire and then heatshrink any exposed copper.

To clear the EML, turn the key to 'on' (so the dash lights up but engine doesn't start) and wait for the airbag and ABS lights to go out. Repeat this process 30 times.

Gentlemen start your engines! Unless you actually have a faulty sensor this should cure your problem and your baby should be running well and properly again.

As a starter I would say unplug the electrical connector from your MAF. The ECU works by measuring the volume of air flow going through the MAF and adjusting the fuel trim to match. If your MAF is kicking out dodgy signals this will cause the jerking you are experiencing. Unplugging the MAF will make the ECU use a pre-defined table of air flows and return your driving experience to a normal one, allbeit with the engine management light constantly illuminated.

Secondly you need to find out why it's giving those signals. It can only really be three things;
1. Faulty MAF (you have replaced this so unlikely)
2. Faulty Wiring from MAF to ECU
3. Faulty ECU (also unlikely but certainly possible)

It is most likely the wiring and this can be tricky to troubleshoot if you don't have the wiring diagrams. I've no doubt you can get these from one of the Corsa forums. Once you have it it's a case of using a multi-metre to test the wires and repair the faulty one.
