Day to day living with a VX
Discussion
I'm going through a similar thought process as Muncher at present. ie VX versus S1 elise.
My question is, is the VX easier to live with day to day. The car wouldn't do extensive milage but I would use it for business trips (often 400miles round) about once per month and dropping my daughter off at the nursery.
Now due to the difference in sale price, I could keep my bimmer for day to day and shove the elise in the garage but I think that's an extravagence too far (particularly given that the insurence for the lotus seems particularly extortionate)
My heart says Lotus, but my head says VX (because it is a lotus)
ps what tuning options are there for the VX n/a.

For business trips the VX is very practical, boot is larger than the elise and engine is sssooooooo flexable, being a 2.2 or 2L T.
I (and many others on vx220.org.uk) have been running one for 2 years as a business car and it is only now, with a new business that means I have to carry more stuff, that I need to change.
Tuning possibilties are large, there is currently a supercharger and turbo in development for the 2.2 Na and various stages of tune for both the 2.2Na and the 2.0T. Some of which are upto 260-280bhp and matching torque.
Well known tuning houses are in on the act as well, AMD, Corntey (spelling) and Regal to name a couple.

When I started to look for a car, I *really* wanted an Elise.
I bought the VX because it was evident from the test drives that the VX would be much easier to live with day-to-day than an Elise. The engine's much nicer (not sure how it compares to the new Toyota unit), and it's SO much quiter when you're not spanking it.
At M-way speeds, I could hear the stereo, and chat happily with passengers. During the test drives of S1/S2 Elises with the Rover engine, at 70+ all I could hear was the drone from the engine.
Just my 2 cents - I'm sure an Elise owner will be along shortly to give the other side of the tale!

I have down 22k miles in a year in a turbo. I am 6"5 and often travel to 400 + miles to Scotland. I haven't hand any issues.
ps I have got mine for £20k sale in the piston heads classified.
If I had £20k I'd bite your arm off.
Cheers lads, sounds quite promising, looks like I'm going to have to blag some test drives. Do Vauxhall still do this 48hour test malarky I read about on this forum?

Look here, at Vauxhall's site, and click on "Book a Test Drive" on the right hand side...

Just to finish this off, I've bought a 2001 VX220 NA in Europa Blue for £12,500 which is a steal, even more so because it's an absolute minter

I pick it up on wednesday, providing funds have cleared.
