Evening all, as above I need to replace the box on an '08 Astra 150 CDTI. Plenty of Vectra C boxes listed with the same spec engine, is the box the same?? Thanks guys, Jon.

Mostly.

I might have this back to front, but on the whole, they have the F32 gearbox, some have the M40.

Or M32 / F40, I can't remember the exact codes, but the *40 is apparently quite rare.

F40 in Vectra, M32 in the Astra if it's the 6 speed. No the Vectra one won't fit as it's longer than the M32 and physically won't go in the space.

The Astra 150s are well known money pits, specifically due to the very weak M32 gearbox, weak DMF, swirl flap/rod breakages and them chewing through alternators and water pumps on a monthly basis.

I think my gearbox is on its way out on my 59 Astra CDTi. Hopefully my memory is correct in thinking that I got an extended warranty when I bought it.....

Whereabouts are you? There's a guy in Kent who does the bearings in them for a very good price and has a good rep on the Astra forums - he's also done loads of them so knows what he's doing. I can fwd you the details if you like. You need to get them done early on and not let it develop otherwise it'll lunch your entire gearbox and you'll be looking at a £1500 bill instead of a few hundred.

I'm up in Aberdeen unfortunately so a bit of a drive away! I've got the car booked into the local VX garage (but not for another 2 and a bit weeks). I'm not certain it is the 'box but internet research (which is all 100% true wink) is leading me to this assumption.

Usually 6th goes first closely followed by 5th/1st/2nd. If you have any constant whirring/whining noises when driving in any of those gears (especially 5th and 6th) then it's defo your box. Another tell tale sign is movement of the gearstick in 1st gear - go to set off on a slight incline and watch to see if the gearstick kicks backwards a few cm when you get the biting point on the clutch. If it does then it's 100% your gearbox bearings. As a general rule if the noises are only in 5th and 6th then you can usually rescue the box by just replacing the bearings but if you've got them in 1st and 2nd as well then you'll probably be looking at a complete unit, hence why it's important to get the job done as soon as you notice it and not let it develop.

I just bought a 1.9 cdti sri and have noticed my gear stick jumps back when I get the biting point in first. I haven't noticed a whiring noise. Should I be worried, it's done 63k miles?? Literally bought the car today and found this thread
