Hi all,

I have a thumping noise coming from one of the wheels in my car (no idea which!)
It is speed dependent and rhythmical, so I am pretty sure it is a wheel.
You can hear it with the windows down from about 15mph, it slows as you slow, if you reverse the same happens in the same place each time, again indicating wheel/tyre.

I have taken it to my a garage and they have confirmed the suspension is perfect, all bearings are fine and the breaks are also in perfect order. There are no bulges in the tyres either and obviously I have checked for nails etc.

They recommended changing ALL the tyres which I would prefer not to do unless 100% necessarily as three of them have over 7mm and the other over 4mm.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Jnoosh

Sounds like a buckled alloy / steel wheel. Have you had the wheels balanced to check them? 4 x wheels balanced @ £6 - 7 each is much cheaper than replacing all 4 tyres then finding its a wheel.

1. CV joint (assuming it's on a driven wheel smile)

2. Wheel weight touching a brake caliper as the wheel rotates - any decent garage would spot this. But then...
