09 Insignia DVD 800 & iPod issues

The old man's just picked up a 2009 Insignia with the DVD 800 system, the AUX from the iPod works perfectly and so does charging from the USB port. I was under the impression that the USB would also allow you to control the iPod via the Navi interface and some Googling would suggest the same however this unit just seems to keep popping up with "Device not supported" also does the same with my iPhone 4S (both devices are running the latest FW though I'm not sure about the Navi system).
Anyone had this issue before or know of a potential fix?

Same problem here. There doesn't seem to be much info on this out there.
Interesting though, I plugged in a Samsung Tocco Lite and it recognised that fine. List of songs came up, and could move through the list and select and play any song, no problem.
Plugged in Samsung Galaxy S and it said 'Device not supported'. Sounds like Smartphones for some reason are not liked.
Hopefully a firmware upgrade should fix this.
