CDR500 Issue (2002 Zafira)

Have a bit of an issue I can't resolve with the cd player in my wife's Zafira, it's a CDR 500 - went to go to Goodwood sat in the car with the radio on, tried to tune the station in for Goodwood radio (87.7) and then all of a sudden it just turned off, no click/bang, just turned off.

The display still lights up on the MID but shows the date and time (as if the radio was off) the radio still lights up when the lights are turned on and the LED flashes on the front, I put a CD in it but it showed SAFE and then reverted straight to off without giving me the change to enter the code, and it won't let me eject the CD. I have checked all fuses and even removed the head unit and checked the fuse on the head unit all fine.

So, anyone come across this before - I don't want to replace it as she likes the steering wheel controls and we are trying to sell it. Murphys law really!!

Have you pulled the whole unit out and checked all connections?

Sounds like a power supply issue to me as it should not switch off when displaying safe mode. Do you have the 4 digit code for the unit?

Replacements can be bought on the bay for next to nothing so steering wheel controls are not an issue should you need to replace.

You can replace it with a SC303 unit which is just radio/cassette and the steering wheel controls will still work.
