Hi chaps,

need a bit of tech spec here if anyone can help?

I had a remap done about a month ago and now i have to get some work done under warranty.Question is if the diagnostic reader is plugged in would it pick up that a remap has been done and more importantly when it was done? does it record date and time of any dicking around??

all comments appreciated

What does it matter if the machine is plugged in ? all they need to do is drive it up the road and it will be immediately obvious, wont it ? if not, you need a refund on the remap!

A regular code scan would not show a remap but its fairly easy to determine if you know what to look for I believe.
Vx have sent ECUs off to be checked before for remaps before authorising warranty work, I don't believe this is commonplace but does happen.

Note that if the remap is unrelated to the warranty claim (e.g. lets say warranty claim is for a broken radio) it won't matter and they will still honour the warranty.

thank you for your input, the matter is now resolved.

the remap does show a difference and was worth the money, should the dealer have come back to me saying the car had been remapped and thus the warranty was null and void, my argument was going to be that i bought it in that state!!! unless of course they could prove differently!

Seems all is well, not coughing and farting anymore thanks to the now correctly fitted plugs.........

If your map was only subtly different there was something wrong!

Do you really believe that techs that drive the cars day in day out wouldn't know maps are switched on the sport button and/or wouldn't know what to expect from a stock car ?

At worst they only need to plug in a tech2 machine, do real time data samples and run it up the road, look at ignition advance and ding ding we have a winner!

Glad you got the car sorted OP. Despite what tuners tell you a mapped car will run on stock plugs no problem.

I agree with Dizzeeeeee smile main dealer techs are mostly clueless. If it was a remapped diesel, then possibly one may notice it because they see millions of them. I bet they see less than one VXR a week in between all the other mundane cars - there's no way they'd notice if one was mapped.

Secondly, they would have to be actively looking for changes with Tech2 to find a remap - it's not as if they get big flashing warnings pop up when they plug it into a modified car...

Could it not be that your remap was the source of the issue? Remap = more boost = higher intake temperatures and thus, the standard plugs can struggle to cope and create a misfire? And if it's had 'incoirrect' plugs fitted previously, unless it was by a Vauxhall dealer then how is that a Vauxhall warranty issue.

Also, these days, manufacturers are clued up and the internet makes it even easier. Look at VXRonline, backed by Vauxhall so like the police, rest assured posts are being monitored. Rest assured, certain key players in within Vauxhall use this very site.

Watch what you post, it's easy to do some digging and add a note on the system against a registration number to say the warranty is null and void.
