AirCon fault light?

Has anyone ever had any problems re: aircon light on dash going on and off. The car is a Mk4 Astra 1.6 petrol. Replaced the condenser and got a recharge nearly 2 years ago now and going away in the car middle of May. Just recently the aircon light on the dash has started to flash on and off at regular intervals, both when the aircon is on AND off. I've never heard of the light coming on when the system is low and spoken to a couple of people who have said the same. You can hear the compressor whirring away, and the air is reasonably cold (although nowhere near as cold as when it was fully charged), when the system is on so it is operational but don't want to pay for a re-gas if there's a fault in the system and its going to cost me extra on top. Any answers or pointers in the right direction would be massively appreciated, cheers!

I'd imagine it's a pressure related issue.
As you say the older VX's had the light in the button which wouldn't light if the pressure was lost, and you also say the temp' isn't what it was.
