Corsa VXR owning
Discussion
Hi all,
without a history lesson, i have always wanted a vxr since the day they 1st came out. Now i am in a position to buy a used one and been reading all sorts of horror stories about reliability.
Thought here might be the best place to get this settled once and for all, test drove one a few weeks ago and loved it hence why my wires car is for sale on here
things like mpg and tires not overly worried about but am worried about bearings as ?? how much they cost, piston 4 issues , gearbox issues, flywheel, clutch and AC issues sound very very expensive and in all honesty a little out of my repair budget.
Hoping some good news out there!!??!!
thanks in advance

Look at the majority of owners, "19 years old" and "mechanical sympathy" are not two phrases often put together.
Case in point, a know a guy with an astra.. he's on his third gearbox, 3rd engine rebuild, lost count of how many turbos and so on. Yet other cars are out there that are all original - tuned or otherwise.
Another lad actually broke a quaife diff (!).
Piston 4 has happened on stock cars I believe, but its rare.

had a corsa vxr since jan 08 it had done about 4000 mile when i got it.it ran a courtenay sport stage 3 set up for about 48,000 and never missed a beat engine wise did have a few rear wheel bearings changed under warrenty but i think i have suss the cause off them failing and since i have done a small mod mine are fine touch wood.it's now running stage 4 and done about 10,000 miles in a year and it's spot on so if you fancy getting one do it they are great cars just make sure you warm it up and cool it down and it's ll be fine hth
There's a guy round the corner from me who has one. He knows I'm into my cars so comes round for a chat now and again. He has an 09 plate VXR (special ed one..??). Nice looking car but his has 24k miles up and it's now on it's third gearbox, 1 or 2 wheel bearings etc etc. It's out of warranty in a couple of weeks and he is desperate to get shot. I wouldn't put my money into one based on his (and others) experiences.
Just to add.
Drove my sons Corsa VXR yesterday and very nice it was!
50,000 on his clock, but I can see why it would wear out certain components if driven hard all the time.
It corners like it is on rails, this will put a higher than normal load on the bearings.
The power from that engine is very high and in the lower gears using that power will put a lot of strain on it.
Plus a ham-fisted owner may not be able to do that gearbox justice.
However I liked it a lot!
Badge snobbery keeping idiots away are perhaps a good thing I suspect!
