Afternoon All,
Considering an Astra 1.4 (140hp) Sri. What kind of discount should I be aiming for, I perhaps foolishly assumed a good deal is 20% off on an astra? I’ll be taking advantage of their 0% finance – should this be a factor on the discount achieved from List price (this sales guy said he couldn’t match a car quake/broadspeed price if 0% finance was taken – said this was a cash price)?

After the first round of negotiations I’d only managed to get about £2385 off with 0% finance included in the deal. List is 20,585 inc met paint. The finance saving is probably worth £3k alone in saved interest charges though.

Cheers
Matt

I've just bought an Astra GTC (Pick it up tonight... biggrin ) it is their demo and only 3.5 months old, with 1200 miles and spec for spec approx £5500 off new. Therefore even with the 0% finance on the new models there was over £140 / month repayment difference...!!! Therefore it was a no brainer to buy the demo.

But you're right, they say there is very little movement on the prices whether it's 0% or not because they are operating a price match so they try to be competitive to start with.

Lad at work just got a GTC think he got 8% off and the 5 years 0% offer.

He is over the moon, i keep wanting to tell him he should have bargained harder.

How much do you think their margin is then on a new car? A damn sight less than you obviously think.

Unless Vauxhall's Finance has changed drastically in the years since I sold them (which I doubt it), then the dealer will be paying a subsidy to cover the 0%. This is why the salesman cannot match the stupid discounts Broadspeed will offer you, but then they cannot finance it for you at 0%, so it's swings and roundabouts there.

In which case I think you have been offered a fairly good deal.

But think about it this way, they are in business to make money, if they do not make enough then they will shut down. If they are no longer about who will carry out any warranty repairs or future work on your car if enough garages have to shut?

It's a tough world out there but I think they offered you a good deal

The deal youv been offered is an associate partners deal of 8% with the additional £750 FDA discount available for stock cars. Theres not massive scope for discounts on the GTC at the moment. Also a point to note, at the start of April GTC's are due to have a price increase of around £500.

Solo2 - Vauxhall finance has changed a fair bit, the 0% finance is not dealer subsidised, its manufacturer subsidised which is why there are still discounts available along with the 0% and no minimum deposits are required (traditionally the 0% offer's were 30-40% deposits and you would sacrifice the discount available for the 0%).
