Calibra about to explode, panic, halp!!
Discussion
Left work at quarter to 7, driving down the M1 in heavy spray, two accidents, manage to miss my exit, may have got a speeding ticket (hoping the cameras are only on when variable limits are), to top it off my Calibra 16v ecotec started to make a horrible whistling/screeching sound with large amounts of throttle and seems to be rather down on power now.
So before I start poking about, in the rain, any tips? Temp wasn't reading high, although I think there was maybe a hot smell, hard to tell as I had the heater on. Head gasket, cts?
Up until leaving work I was having a good day.

additional details, running it just now, stationary:
seems to be quieter high pitched whistle under bonnet and a low pitched whistle, which gets rather loud when revved, coming from exhaust. also possibly some slight smoke under bonnet in the area at the front and below the block.. sort of around exhaust manifold?? Could a leak around the manifold cause whistling out the back??
It sounds really horrible, like it's dying. It's either the exhaust or it's stopped moving oil around and I'm hearing metal on metal..
