Would like to pick your brains on the above.

Ignore the looks and take that out of the equation. Which one would you choose to do an "Esthi" on? Audi V6TT inline for those not familiar.

I'm thinking that the VX220 has beefier underpinnings and may be more suited to having that sort of weight and grunt back there.

The S2 Elise i see more as a delicate machine but do you think it would handle that setup?

S1 i reckon is a no-no without a huge amount of work.

The cost of the base car comes into it i suppose, the VX's are much cheaper but would the benefits of the Elise be lost post conversion?

I believe the underpinnings of a vx220 and a s2 elise are more or less exactly the same.

Cheers, think i'd be best off with the VX for this, mostly due to the price difference.

Nah, not at all Marky.

My dilemma is though, if I buy a 911 ill end up with a 3.2 and then put in a 3.6 engine and do the brakes and do the suspension etc etc.

I know its ultimately what I want but that'd be it, i'll not sell it.

With a bit of cash coming my way at long last I think I should maybe try out some other itches 1st before settling down.

Sumwhat like getting married biggrin

Ha!
Yeah, I know what you mean mate, you've gotta scratch those itches!
The old 911s get under your skin mind, especially when you've put a lot of work into them.
I've got the chance to move upto a Ferrari 360 next spring but, don't know if I can bare to part with the old 911.
That's why I wandered into this forum. I'm trying to convince myself to get an Exige or VX220 Turbo for everyday use and the odd trackday, and just keep the 911 as my toy, rather than put all my eggs in one basket so to speak, with a 360.

They seem awesome value the VXs.

I love this supercharged one, even though it started out as a N/A model :-

Not buying until spring though, whatever I go for.

Good luck with your search! smile

Cheers. The VX220 VFM is quite braw i reckon.

I just can't leave my cars alone, it's an affliction boxedin I'd leave a GT3 CS well enough alone. Maybe.

I know the above would be wild with 350/400bhp easily available. And if it's doable for £10k all in then that's the minimum i'd be looking at buying a 3.2 for and it'd keep me busy in the garage.

Dunno if the VX will be a big enough step away from the Mr2 in terms of "plantedness" on the road but i guess if i don't like it then it should be fairly easy to sell.....laugh

Been out in my cousin's Stage 3 VXT. That was a hoot.

You love your projects mind don't you!? laugh I wish I had the ability. I can bolt things off and fit new parts back on, but that's about it.

Whatever I buy will have to be already done. The shortlist (well longish list actually smile ) consists of -
Lotus Elise or Exige, maybe Honda'd, I'd never even heard of the TT conversion til today!
VX220 Turbo or supercharged
Porsche 968 Clubsport
Caterfield or similar.

Researching all options til spring.

You're MR2 must sound lovely does it? I've seen those Camry engines in the MK2 MR2s but not the later model like yours. Nice conversion.

Anyway, sorry for the thread hijack. smile

Back on topic, I'm all ears about any VX versus Exige advice anyone has in this forum...

Aye it sounds decent : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVkqCFhO-k0

Pretty sure i could get the 4.2 V8 in the VX with the new gearbox too but it would require some major work on the suspension pick up points due to where the driveshafts run. That might be all wrong for the car though. Will save that for the Mk2 Mr2 project for the old man i reckon.

I think there's only 2 Esthi's, probably big problems keeping things cool in there.

I'm tempted to look at a SC'd version using the 2.7TT block, get the noise back thumbup

Exige type clam/engine lid would give plenty room for some positive boost.

Then there's the 3.8 Boxster idea....

VX220 is slightly longer I believe to accomidate the 2.2N/A or 2.0 Turbo engine.
