Does anybody know where the coolant temperature sensor is fitted on an Astra 1.4L, 1996, ecotec engine? I am not well versed in modern engines, so a simple explanation would help. The last engines that I worked on had distributers and carbs. smile

I have spent a couple of hours on Google and cannot find the info.

Mods: apologies if this is in the wrong section.

It should be near the thermostat housing, either on the top or at the side with a 2 pin plug.
I'll try find a pic (is it a 8 valve or 16?)

Thank you. It is indeed there!

It seems that the sensor is faulty. Disconnecting it seems to have sorted the problem... which is good news.

The car was stalling, and also running very rough, when the engine was warm. Sometimes it was almost impossible to start. Now that the sensor has been disconnected, everything seems fine. We will change the sensor when it goes in for its MOT.
