Well, after a couple of years of saying I'll be there and not actually going due to work, it looks like this year I'll be stumping up the cash and coming to my first Black Tie and Pie...

So for who else will it be their 'first time'?

I have neither a tux, or any other fancy clothes, I only have a suit jacket as I left my suit trousers abroad on my last job. This may involve some investment...

What is usual BT&P etiquette? Anything us 'newbs' need to know? Whos is the scariest Pher in real life? Is the food really pie or do we get to eat posh stuff? Do they really expect to let oiks like myself in?

I look forward to replies with good humour...

biggrin

Hire a suit. Get there in time for dinner. If you get there early avoid the bar area. If you can't avoid the bar area, avoid the RWR team hehe If you can't avoid them, avoid the Strawpeedo. If you can't avoid the Strawpeedo, down it in 1, in under 5 seconds or you will have to pay a penalty hehe If you can't avoid the penalties, you won't need the suit as you won't make it for dinner.

I will avoid anythin called a 'Strawpedo' those sorts of things will be the death of me.

I'll get a cheapo tux and try my best to look at least a little respectable...

Right then, some sort of bib to collect any spills is a must.

And don't fall asleep in public.

You know, I'm looking forward to this, just seeing who I can drag along with me so I don't have to look like a sad loner and also to watch my back...

biggrin

Bibs won't help

He wasn't asleep, passed out is a better description wink

You'll be fine on your own,, if you take someone else they will A- think you are a werido going to meet a group of people you've only chatted to in the internets and B - you'll have to look after them rather than mix freely hehe

hehe

Actually that is a point, when I went on my first proper PH 'Meet and Hoon' earlier this year I did get a few odd looks when I mentioned I was meeting a bunch of people I'd only ever spoken to on the internet.

I'm not weird or anything. Honest.

Show me to the bar and all will be fine, once I've had a few drinks and start regaling (sp?) all and sundry with tales of bar dancing and winning 'rear of the year' people find it hard to shut me up.

biggrin

They're called "pedos" for short. Just ask at the bar.

I'm a BT&P virgin and wouldn't hesitate to attend.

But don't let that put you off, cos I'm going to continue my tradition of not turning up. Although this year I'm skipping the customary initial blast of enthusiasm and proclamations of definite attendance.

I'll only have been back in the country just over a month and will be distinctly bereft of cash.

I might be able to sneak an SAS Xmas bash though, depending on where I am at the time wink
