Am I right in thinking that a single-breasted suit, with black tie & cummerbund, with a standard collar, is the appropriate choice?

ETA: I'm trying to avoid looking like a bit more of a daft tt.

How much is it costing you to rent?

M&S do some perfectly decent ones, all for between £100 and £200 which, if you assume a rental cost of around £30 a throw, plus the hassle of getting to and from the rental shop, you're not going to need many black tie occasions before it has paid for itself. Just knowing it's there in the wardrobe and I don't have to worry about getting one is a nice feeling. smile

Hmm. Good point. From Hire Society (interweb firm) I'm looking at about 90 quid rental for the couple of days.

So yes.

Might have to get myself to marks'n'sparks.

Looks quite good actually. Factor the dress shoes in though and it jumps up to £170. Still, that's 3 black tie do's.

Just be aware, I had a look at the M&S cheapo tux - and it certainly felt cheap, i wasnt impressed...

But, if your planning on spending that on a rental - I suppose at least you have one for the same cost.

All part of their marketing plan to get you in there, you then go up a couple of prices to get a material you like as you are already in the shop and everyone knows men HATE shopping, getting them there is difficult, getting them to look somewhere else, at the same thing is even worse, so you stay in the same shop and spend more smile

I've always wondered why blokes fuss so much about what is essentially a bog standard black suit with a posh shirt. The cloths fussing is for the laydeez! My tux and trousers came from ASDA, £50 all in. You'll only get pie down it!

It may only be a black suit, white shirt and bow tie... but hey, you wouldnt catch bond in a 'George' 50 quid suit and a clip on would you wink

Nope, but evidently you will catch Darren Day in one.

Mind you, his career has taken a bit of a downturn laugh
