and friend.... and Pistonheader

A massive thank you to my good friend and Eurohooner Mr Stuart "Shadytree" Ansell.

For those of you who weren't there....

The last auction item was this...

for those that don't know, it is my car on EuroHoon. Now I was going to get this photo blown up anyway, so thought ok, I can go to £50, allowing for the affect of beer, more likely £100.

The auction commentary actualy went something like this:

Ted: OK, a superb framed photo commemorating EuroHoon, come on, must be worth a bit.
Shady: £500.
Ted: Sold!
Burriana: What the... who, where, what happened?!!!

Then as I went to shake Shady by the hand he simply hands the picture to me and says, "There's only one bloke that this picture belongs to and it's you."

I was, am and will probably remain for some time, totally gob smacked and am honoured to call Stuart not only a fellow PistonHeader, but a good friend.

Thank you also to Rich for the unexpected but quite humbling and in no small part quite amusing, support ... to Mick and Georgie (French TVR and Wedge Girl/Bad Girl/Blagger) for providing the fantastic raffle prize.... and once again, our main man Ted who without, none of this would be possible.

Until next time
al.

Dear all,

Thanks for the kind words Al, but i'd like to share a few of my thoughts here.
At the start of the auction Ted said that this years auction's proceeds would be going to Cancer Research.
He said that I'm sure that more than one of us has been touched by cancer at one point or more in our families lives.
This was so true in my case and when ever the 'C' word is mentioned I'm happy to giver generously.
I lost an Aunt, Uncle and two dear friends to 'C', and had an ex girlfriend who had a cancer scare. All very heart renching, but the most tragic event I have witnessed was my fathers next door neigbour.
His 11 year old son had Leukemia (a form of cancer) from the age of about 7. He was a fantastic boy and a true car nut. He new more about Ferrari's and their models than anyone on PH. He could recall every winner of F1 Gran Prix's long before his short life.
He went through a horrible rageem of therapy and never complained once. After he lost his battle against Leukemia it really did open my eyes up to the bigger picture. 500 people turned up for the service, it's a pretty traumatic day.

So having the opportunity to do a good deed and make a mate like Al happy, was only a small part of my story.
I hope you can understand my generosity and don't take me as someone who splashes the cash (I'm not suggesting, but some might think like that).

Shady

Well done Stu!!!!!!!!!

Well done Ted for choosing such a good cause.

I would have been crying had I seen the activity. Just lost a cousin a few weeks ago to C, amongst others family members. His courage and dignity in dealing with his illness had humbled me.

The hospice staff were astounding, and are worthy of deep respect.

Podie and I flogged the raffle tickets, something we both wanted to help with because of the way that cancer has affected each of our lives in the last couple of years.

I must say that I was incredibly touched by the astounding generosity of PHers, giving prizes and money. It's easy to say 'oh so-and-so can afford it', but let's be fair - we can all find something else to spend that £10, £20, £50 or £100 on.

Perhaps it will ruin my reputation as a hard case , but I will admit that when we were sitting counting up the raffle contributions, I was so amazed by how generous everyone had been that my eyes were stinging. All I can say to everyone is , and thanks for making the job of collecting so easy

It really was pretty amazing to witness this bid. No one was expecting it.
Shady, that really was an unbelievable gift, Al was so shocked, but more than that, you helped to raise even more money for a good cause.

It was quite an experience doing the raffle... stunned by the generosity of everyone in the room.

Just trying to sort the money (when ) was difficult, let alone count it!

The auction continued in the same spirit (literally in many cases ) and I look forward to hearing the official total when Ted's counted it all.

Regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what you drive, it's clear that Cancer has touched far too many of us in some form or another. I think everyone thoroughly deserves to give themselves a pat on the back for what they have helped to achieve.

Makes me proud to be a PH'er.
