Might be worth checking out alternative routes for anyone considering the M42. Drove along it on Monday, (from A42 to junction with the M40) and it seemed to be one long traffic jam moving barely above 40, with periodic slamming on of brakes from cars all around as they approached speed cameras.

Thought I'd let folks know..

Are the cameras in the road works section? If so I do not have a problem with them.

If it's a weekday evening, avoid if possible - it's a mess until gone 7pm.

If it's a weekend, it'll be GATSO'd 50-limit all the way from north of the M6 down to the M40, but it does move at 40 or so all the time.

Thats exactly it.. I don't have a problem with them being there, but it was absolute chaos on Monday morning and I thought people might wish to choose a route that didn't involve sitting in quite so much non moving traffic..

Talking of roads. Are there any directions to the hotel apart from the little map on the back of the invite or a web site for it? Sorry if I have missed them on some other thread.

Amen!!! Lots of roundabouts, some twisty dual-carriageway, some rather good single-carriageway north of Belfry (when quiet - can be busy)...the drive would certainly be more in keeping with the event!!!

Yup, thats the one.. I've been known to get most of the way to Bristol from Sheffield without resorting to motorways before now..

I used to use the A38 all the time, got fed up of being nicked on the M5 for doing 90
