Gentlemen, cummerbunds.....de rigeur or passe ?

Single breasted - I believe waistcoats are more the thing now... (kind of a statement to wear something other than basic black)
Double Breasted - please yerself. Keep the jacket buttoned and it doesn't matter. If you plan on removing the jacket during the night, however, you should have one or the other on underneath.
Oh and by all that's holy, bow ties only please. I hate seeing these idiot hollywood types with DJ and regular tie on. Where's my gun...
Cheers

I have always been told that correct etiquette in this instance is - If you wear a waistcoat and you take your jacket off you must also take the waistcoat off, but then again ths is 'extreme etiquette'. Take it to the max
I will look just grand in my PJ's unless that bloody suit is ready on time.
Waistcoat or not waistcoat. I was under the impression that if you wore a correct smoking shirt, winged and pleated then you should not wear a waistcoat too as it would be too much detail. I don't believe I have ever seen Mr Bond wearing a waistcoat. Of course I could be wrong?
