Hi,

Finally got around to checking my static timing. Seems very high. Former owner had it set high to try to get it emissions passed and never re-set it. Looks like the mechanical advance mechanism works pretty good (at least visually)

Static looked like over 14 degrees.

I'm going to dial it back a bit I think.

What are the symptoms of excessive advance?

After I verify TDC...

what should I set it for a 1700cc super sprint? I run premium gas, but it is generally a lower octane than the UK I think.

I used to set my Roger King built 155 for power as Roger describes but that had the right distributor.

OK, I have had the same issue with mine, first off what carbs are you running as this will effect you if run the mech advance on the dizzy.
