My R300d tends to leak a bit of coolant through the cap of the header tank.

This happens when on track days and seems to be ok when normal use on roads.

when the car is brought back into the pits and switched off the coolant rises in the header tank and leaks.

I have tried leaving the engine tickover for a while but the over flow still occurs.

Has anyone experienced this. I have spoken to other R300d owners but they cars are ok.

I have a few thoughts to whether I drive the car harder than the guys I have spoke to, or I need a larger rad for trackdays.

Any thoughts ?

Are you saying the coolant rises right to the cap and then leaks out?

This is a airlock - probably in the radiator. I would check the water rail hose (top hose) doesn't drop down too much - i.e. it is as high and straight as possible.

Edit: it may be that a leaky cap is making it worse

Hi Purespeed, that is it exactly, temperature doesn't increase more than 80, but the coolant leaks as it reaches the cap.

The cap is the new design where you can not over tighten and just clicks when tight enough. I don't think its the cap that is at fault because in my mind the coolant should not rise that far.

I will check the position of the top hose.

Thanks lads

Replace the cap. It is losing pressure allowing the coolant to expand and leak. It's a cheap fix.

Hi Risky, that was my initial thought as its the cheapest and easiest. I had spoken to CC and they reckon no. I was enquiring if anyone elsehad same fault.

I'm not sure CC know everything. I still think it's likely to be the cap. It's cheap enough to give it a try. I've known similar problems and it's been the cure.
IGood luck - let us know how you get on.
