Just musing about options to enter the Caterham world of fun smile

2010 RoadSport with the 125 Sigma engine

2006 RoadSport with 140bhp

2004 R300 with 20k on the clock

Something older, but a bit special:

At the moment, the R300 looks tempting.

I wrote a long reply then the pc crashed rage

Short version is my vote is for the R300. Perfect spec, not short of power and looks like a fabulous car.

But ultimately it depends what you want the car for. I bought mine purely as a toy, no touring whatsoever so it had to be a Superlight. The six speed box is fabulous so if that's what you want too then the R300 is perfect.

Good colour too hehe

I vote the R300 as well.
Mind you, I am biased having just bought one 2 weeks ago (although for a bit less than that one)

My vote also goes for the R300 although personally I would get CC to change those horrid non standard 15" wheels hurl for some some 13" Anthracites with CR500 rubber.

The new Supersport is worth a look.

Sounds ok, hopefully they have managed to keep some of the driveability of the 125 without adding the harshness of the 150.

Not that I know much, as I probably won't be getting one for a while, but I'd get the R300.

I would get the other one - http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/preowned/pre...

Less miles and correct wheels, worth the extra £1000

I'd buy that one two. But then I did own that car once before. Impressive residual seeing as I paid less than that when it had 4k miles on it in 2008.

R300 is the way to go and prices seem to be going up.

Interestingly (or not). I wouldn't spend 20k on a caterham. I'd spend 14k on a 1600 supersport and 6k on track days.

I bought a Roadsport 125 kit for just under £20,000

Always wanted to build my own, so I enjoyed the build and it's a lovely car to drive.
I'm not a real fan of track days, and don't mind being passed when I do one, so the performance is lively enough for 99% road use.

After all, the sigma gives the same power as a Lotus twin cam in good condition and I don't remember road testers in the seventies complaining the Seven was under powered.

EVO did a recent test of a number of Caterhams and found the original Superlight to be the best. A mint one of those should be £17k tops..

Im not going to lie, i am going to be more biased than anyone else on this forum, Buy the R300 i used to own that exact car around about four years ago hence the log in name i still havent changed. Not sure what has changed on the car since i owned it. When I bought the car it had been remapped by Steve Grenald (If i remembered his name right)and performed extremely well, so much so the mechanic at Millwood checked with me that it wasn't an R400. If you end up buying it let me know as im sure i have the build photos, the original owner forwarded to me after i purchased the vehicle from Millwood.
