Temperature gauge
Discussion
A quick question to all you clever Faulk out there, took advantage of the nice weather to go for a quick blat today, but during the warm up /oil level checking procedure I noticed the temperature gauge wasn't working. Everything seemed ok so I still went for a short run hopefully didn't do any harm. Any suggestions as to what it could be?
Hi Alan many thanks for that info, without sounding ungrateful could you explain a bit slower and in a bit more detail so I can have ago tomorrow, I'm just a thick old heating engineer, only had the car a couple of months and looking at service paperwork it looks like it had a temperature sender in Febuary. Are they the sort of things that pack up regularly?
What engine is it?
K series the temperature sender is on the same side as the exhaust just below the cylinder head on a metal water pipe. It will have 1 wire sticking out of it, take this connection off & with the ignition switched on touch any part of your engine with it. The guage should go off thye scale. if it does = sender dead, if water temp needle doesn't move = faulty wiring or guage could be dead.
Edited to add, yes the senders go quite often
