From my recent enquiries looking at getting cover for a modified Caterham, the ins company will be interested in a) how many extra bhp and b) what increase in value (if any)the conversion will make to your car (assuming all other info is unchanged from your last renewal). I don't know if this will apply to you but I have heard of an ins co asking for a copy of the V5 when you send it in ammended to show the change of engine also.

Try Frank Pickles for a quote - I was paying £132 a yr for limited mileage on my 2l VX.

Wasn't with Pickles at the time - I remember when I went from carbs to FI / throttle bodies. They had just had a DCOE carb car fire, carb leak drips on to dizzy on kent engine... - all they said was FI conversion, great!

I've just upgraded my 18 year old 7 for the 2nd time. The first time in 2008 was a complete rebuild except for the engine and I also had the car put on to 'Agreed Value' cover after getting a valuation of £14,000.

This year I've just upgraded the engine from a 140bhp 1.8 x/flow to a 180bhp 2.0 Zetec. Insurance company agreed to increase the Agreed Value to £16,000. Premium increased from £340 to £343, not a typo, but just £3.

Although premium might seem high that includes trailer cover (£2,000) at £86 and there is a loading for the Agreed Value bit and mileage limit is 7,500.

V5c has also been changed, this was simply done by amending the old one and sending off with a Certificate of Newness from Raceline for the Zetec
