R400 K - Clutch problems
Discussion
Car is a 2004 R400 and apologies if this has been covered before, but I'm new to Caterhams and trying to piece together the best way of getting the car sorted.
The clutch cable has needed adjusting more and more frequently, and now the crb is making some alarming noises - worse with pedal depressed, and not good with pedal up.
Read on here and Blatchat about issues with both crb and the actuating arm - so I was hoping for opinion as to the best place to take the car to get both sorted, and which parts to use ?
I'd do the work myself if I had the time, but work and kids mean I only have time for minor fettling and trackdays now...
Really looking for someone trustworthy that I can give the car to with confidence, knowing i wont be worrying about stuff not being bolted back together properly, wires chafing, etc.
Also read about a hydraulic conversion from the cable setup - is this for the K engine with 6 speed and bellhousing dry sump ? worth looking at while the engine is out ?
Thanks for any advice.
Matt

Hi Matt
assuming you have the oil tank in the bell housing then it does sound like you have the bending clutch arm problem. They are a vary nice fabricated item but they do bend and touch the pressed clutch cover making a right racket. You could knock it straight and even get some metal welded to the edges without much trouble. Caterham replaced then with a stronger one later on.

Thanks Jason
Can anyone offer advice on the other queries ?
1. Where to take the car to have the work done? Ideally nr. Hants
2. What is the upgraded part no. for the crb actuating arm and crb itself ?
3. Is the hydraulic conversion feasible
4. anything else i should get done whilst engine is out ??
Thanks for any advice

I have an R400 , had it from new ( 2004 ) and its done nearly 20,000 miles now .
When i built it Caterham had no clutch release arms in stock but managed to source me an arm from a RS2000 that was of a fabricated design rather than the pressed metal sort i had on my previous 1600 K . Touch wood it hasnt given any issues . Personally i wouldnt bother with a hydraulic upgrade , the mechanical one works fine, just source a good quality bearing and speak to caterham about the strongest arm they now do .
Sorry no suggestions about a garage other than perhaps to suggest James Whiting who is near Heathrow
