As the title says, does anyone have any recomendations for looking after/fettling a decent spec Caterham in Essex? I'm gettting closer to buying but I tried to contact Hyperion regarding doing an inspection and servicing etc and it appears they've closed?
All help appreciated

I'm not sure about Essex now that Hyperion has gone. You have Taylor's Foundary motorsport in Haverhill Suffolk and OBNS motorsport in Norwich depending which end of Essex you are based.

Hi, thanks for that,I'm in Chelmsford (effectively Mid-Essex) so Caterham themselves would probably be just as close. It's a shame, as there is a CSR that may well interest me if it got the all clear after inspection but it's sat for a while/no MOT/needs battery etc so can't be driven.

Hyperion no longer exist - in fact Paul Stephens is now in their unit. There is no one else in Essex who offers any Caterham service whatsoever (potential gap in the market?). However, there are some of us who could take a look at the CSR, drive it and give you our impression of it...but if you really do want a specialist to take a look at it, your nearest place would be Ratrace, Chris Wheeler or Caterham.

I can vouch for Dave and the guys at Taylor's Foundry Motorsport.

Otherwise and possibly nearer, the Seven workshop in Hoddesdon is great.

Thanks, that's a very helpful offer, unfortunately at the mo' it has no tax/mot etc, so was thinking of getting it trailored somehwre for an assessment.Strangely, the Hyperion number still exists, and the bloke who answered had the right strop when I asked if that was Hyperion.

01787 478800?...did he tell you his name was Alf?...

If you are going to have it trailored anywhere, you may just as well have Caterham look at it, to be honest. Or why not call someone like Mick Attree (Mic on here) and pay him to go and check it out - he's a Duratec wizard.

I'm just wondering what it is that you are bothered about...it's so easy to check for chassis damage and the Duratec is pretty much bulletproof. Anyone can obtain an HPI check now (just make sure it's on both reg number and chassis). Then it's just a case of how well it's priced compared to others. Who owns the car currently? I may know them....
