Am bewildered...

My old 4 point Luke harnesses are out of date, so need a new set.

1992 chassis, so only 4 set of mounting points I assume. Tillet-a-likes.

Having the option of some sort of crotch strap(s) would be useful I think.

Any clues ?

In my racer I used a double strap and secured it to the same mounting points as the lap belts. Is yours a racer? If not, the 'expiry' date is for FIA racing approval only- I.e. They are still MOT worthy and legal!

Yep, I think the crotch straps attach to the same point as the lap belts.

They needed replacing anyway, getting pretty old now.

Ah, so can look at getting some 6 pointers anyway ?

I think so, but may be worth a call to Caterham in the morning to confirm...

My 1992 chassis has 6-point harnesses fitted. Crotch strap fits to the lugs at the bottom of the rear bulkhead. Originally these were for supports that the seats runners were bolted to.

True that, Chris. I think I didn't use those on my car because I couldn't get the seat in as good a position with the harnesses bolted there.
BTW Noger, I went directly to Luke for mine and they are ace. You'll never regret getting a crotch strap- I couldn't believe how it transformed my pedal control and reduced my fatigue.

No, the lap belt bolt to a lug on the sides, the crotch belts bolt to lugs on the rear bulkhead

^ +1. They definitely attach to rear bulkhead.

Yes, they do appear to !

OK, so 6 points seem a good way to go.

Caterham/Luke have two types, the "monkey tail" ones where the crotch strap terminates on a loop on the shoulder straps, having gone through a "D" ring on the lap belt. These used to get a good review when it was Willans that did a similar thing ? Kept the straps away from the important areas. Quite like this as you can leave the monkey tails under the seat if you want.

Then they do one with a "V" plugin to the.

Willans do what looks like a standard 6 point, and also have "V" or "T" plugins for the 4 point.

Schroth look very expensive, particularly for the 6 point that seems to work with HANS, although their 4 point has some sort of anti submarine fixing that loosens the inboard strap in a crash and must twist you round to stop you going under ?

Am thinking the Caterham/Luke "monkey" ones look pretty good ?

Hi Noger, when Chris rebuilt my car recently he put in a set of Caterham 6-point harnesses for me. It is a pre-1997 chassis, so you should be fine. He didn't say he had any problems....

Yeah, Chris said he could fit the 6 point. Just trying to decide which one !

The Caterham one

https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product_info.php?p...

actually doesn't look like the Luke one (I thought it was a re-brand)

The Luke is £80 cheaper too. Hmmm.

Although the Caterham does look like the "red handle" Luke of old.

Ah yes, and that isn't a Caterham fit either. Thanks.

Time to do some ringing around.

The Caterham ones look like they have a decently adjustable lap belt. My old Luke 4 point was almost impossible and would be totally impossible in tilleys.

Hi I'm new here and have been looking at harnesses also. I saw these http://www.7tips.co.uk/harnesses.html

(sorry have not worked out how to link yet) at Autosport and they looked very good. Standard ones only have steel buckles but they said ali ones were also available. They seemed good enough for my old steed though.

Not seen them before, fairly new entrant I guess. But they look good and a decent price for sure.
