Gearbox & Diff advice please

Hi all, thank you for reading.

Can any one help with gearbox and diff advice please?

Does anyone know if the XR4i gearbox and diff are the same in all Ford models, including the 4x4?

If not is there any significant difference between them? Which is best and which did/do Caterham use in their cars?

I ask because I want to match a gearbox and diff to a 2.0l 16 valve Red top VX engine in a De Dion S3.

Any help will be much appreciated.

The V6 'box has a slightly different layshaft support which bolts onto the front of the main case, not all bell housings fit because of this.

All type 9s have a straight through (1:1) 4th gear but you can get different ratios for the other gears

I think I have a red top bell housing kicking around somewhere, I can't remember the specifics, I'll have a dig about tomorrow

My mistake, the housing I thought was for a red top was actually for a cross flow

It's also worth mentioning that you can get IIRC red top bellhousings that run either vertically or 7 deg (from memory, don't sue me) depending on engine spec.
