Hi all,

Just a quick question, haven't driven my car for a while and noticed today that there is a noise on application of any lock, its almost a screeching scratchy noise, you can slightly feel it through the wheel, it isn't particularly loud but obviously not normal. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Keen to figure it out without having to take out the whole column. For reference the car is an 09 SV 1600 superlight.

Any help appreciated,
cheers.

I assume you have taken the the bonnet off to see if the steering rod is making contact with anything ?
in a k series car the rod can make contact with the dry sump holder for instance - but I appreciate you have a sigma ...

haha, yes, i have taken off the bonnet, (have a little faith!) i think i may have to take out the rack, i've switched the bushes out so this may be the final option, is there any precautions i need to take with this?

Ollie,

have you considered getting a spray can of silicon lubricant and sticking the little red tube in where the bushings are (all sets) and applying a careful spray into them? Seems a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the bushes if you've not got any mechanical interference occurring.

Ollie,
Check the lock nut at the bottom of the upright is tight on both sides.
