When I bought "Katie", she came full (and with a spare few litres) of the Halfords 5W/50 fully synthetic "Motorsport" oil.

Now, bearing in mind that my 7 is my only car and has to get me to work every day - a very short (three miles or so) commute with very early (and therefore cold) starts - and that the oil hardly gets up to a decent temperature, is this "Motorsport" stuff really the ideal oil for my needs?

Or would something a little less "highly strung" be more suitable? Magnatex, for example?

I'm trying to be as mechanically sympathetic as I can!

And while we're on the subject, do these (the oil coolers) do exactly what they say on the tin?

Thanks in advance.

I've got an 1800K supersport same as yours. Currently using 0w-40 Mobil 1, no track days. Fuchs Titan race 5w-40 is recommended and apparently Fuchs Titan supersyn is rebranded as Unipart 5w-40. No point in getting a nice motor an skimping on 60 quids worth of oil. Mine is not a daily driver and the apollo tank means it takes ages for the oil to warm.

Absolutely agree, there's no way I want to skimp on anything for this car. I just wondered that if, under the circumstances, this is the "best" oil I could be using.

Any 5w-40 fully synthetic will do.

how about

or

if you've got an apollo you will need about 7 ltrs. I don't drain the apollo and neither did the PO and when I dropped the sump it was clean as a whistle at 36000 miles. I got rid of the yellow foam and cleaned the strainer.

rolleyes Yes only change 5 out of the 7 litres that will be fine

FFS either change all the oil or don't bother

well 6 and a bit litres and with an average of 3000 miles between changes I'd rather not piss around with the none leaking apollo
