Try saying that after a few ales.

I have a 1600K (out of the car at the moment) and wondered if there was a plug and play alternative to my current alternator, as it's a sod to adjust the belt tension because the adjuster fouls on the chassis. It's shredded several belts now. I've heard Brise mentioned, but do they do a like for like swop, or have I got to get into rewiring? Electrics ain't my thing...

Any help appreciated.

I think the Brise alternator "just fits" but it's not a change I've made so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon...

Chris, this may seem like an odd question, but have you looked at Brise's website page for Alternators? http://www.brise.co.uk/alternators.html is the page, and having a Brise starter I simply looked at pictures till I found one that looked the same, picked up the phone and called to confirm on 01322 313761 or 01322 277622 .

Very helpful guys there!

sounds to me like you have a problem with alignment or position of your current alternator ?
hundreds of other caterhams use the STD alternator with no issues ?

I used to tension the belt with a lever through a gap near the lower mount and hence didn't have to use the tensioner bolt

just trying to save you a few hundred quid :-)

Hi guys,
I too make and uprate alternators, starter motors, kenlowe fans and cut-out systems plus I do the work my self, the sames as Brise (I used to work there).
Please see my web site; http://www.racecarelectrics.co.uk/ lots of other stuff also coming on very soon!
Good prices too!
The web site is a bit "pants" but a friend and I put it together.

I also have a well known engine tuner and Caterham man next to my workshop!

Cheers,

Brian.
