I have a standardish Roadsport with a K series engine and intend to use it mainly for track days. Have people had issues with failing the noise checks at places like bedford/goodwood running the standard set-up?

I never failed a noisetest with a Rover K - V.V.C. I had about 10 years ago (But then I never took it to Bedford - where they chuck you off if you fart too loud)

I've never had a problem with my Superlight. It has a 4-1 supersport exhaust and no cat, but has never measured over 94dB.

as a very rough rule of thumb, if the car still has the original plastic plenum it should be fine at any UK race track (thruxton being the possible exception). it's the roller-barrel throttle bodies that make the k-series so noisy (SLR/KR300/KR400+ etc)

Seems louder than my 993 and that measured, just trying to avoid paying out for a track day and then taking the drive of shame home.

If it's got a Cat in place and the exhaust is in good condition - i'd be *gobsmacked* if you failed to be honest.

hey up Steve - indeed it has been a very long time!

As Jonny says its the induction side that causes problems, my K400 proved even louder that the later C400 thanks to it breathing through the hole in the side of the bonnet. The last time it ran, I tripped the meter on the start line at Donington at 104db (drive by on the other side other track). The C400 was never quite as loud.

I never had a problem running anywhere with my Roadsports racecar (plastic plenum).

Even the R300 race cars are quiet enough for Donington and sounded really crisp in the cool autumn air yesterday

Missed you yesterday Jonny, I saw Stuart but he had his head buried in a laptop so didn't bother him.

The R300's are laughing at Donington Park now - exhaust on the other side to the drive-by mic, standard plenum means no induction noise. even the new DR500's can pass (with proper silencer and the full-on airbox attached). Not many KR500s that could pass driveby at Donington.
