I noticed yesterday out on a blat that my oil temperature went up a lot quicker than usual to a higher temp than usual. It was up to 90 -100 within 10 mins at most - I've only ever seen it that high on track on a hot day. I came home and put in about half a litre of oil to take it up to max on the dipstick.

When should I start panicking about this, could it just be that the oil was a bit low and I was pushing harder than I realised? How would I know e.g. if the oil pump has packed up or the engine is about to grenade?

Unfortunately, before someone asks, my water temp gauge wasn't working, there's a bad connection on the sensor, so I don't know what that was doing, but I want to make sure that is before I next venture out.

Its a K Series R300 with dry sump if that's any help.

Apologies if I'm being my usual neurotic self.

Most likely to be the sender, they are known to be a replaceable item.

Try ordering a new one and see if that fixes it.

Think you're right - went out today and it was reading over 60 degrees from start up!

Whilst we are here... what water temp should I be reading whilst driving reasonably quick - but not track quick - on an R500D?

TIA
